The journalist from Madrid Fernando Lara has confirmed his participation on the jury of the eighth edition of the Euroarab Film Festival Amal, which will be held from 23 to 30 October.
Lara, who now works in the newspaper "El Mundo" and the magazines "Fotogramas" and "Cahiers du Cinéma-Spain", was the director of the International Film Week of Valladolid (Seminci) from 1984-2004. Between 2005 and 2009 he served as Director General of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), under the Ministry of Culture.
He also served as delegate of Spain in the Berlin Film Festival. Moreover, he took part on the International Jury of the Festival of Berlin, Cannes (Camera d'Or), Karlovy-Vary, Brussels, Florence and Guadalajara (Mexico) as well as in several Spanish festivals. Since 2007 he has the distinction of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France, and has written books like 18 españoles de posguerra, 7 trabajos de base sobre el cine español, Valle-Inclán y el cine y Miguel Mihura, en el infierno del cine.
This way, Lara joins the outstanding professionals who have already confirmed their presence in the jury of Amal´s new edition: the filmmaker and programmer Marie Claude Benha (vice president of the Association of Euorarab Film), the journalist and critic Nayla Abdel film Chalet, who is now collaborating with UNESCO in organizing cultural events and activities, and the Spanish journalist specialized in Middle East Oscar Abou Kassem and Liana Saleh (journalist and director of Palestinian films.)
The jury of Amal highlights each year for being intercultural and interdisciplinary. Therefore, each year invites professionals from different countries with careers related to the Arab world and culture.
